Little Hands Go Baking

It was so much fun watching little hands hard at work. Last Friday, along with 2 mums, we organized a baking activity with our little girls. We successfully completed 3 simple recipes (1 being very simple as it was pre-mixed! Ooops). Nonetheless, the girls and the mums had a wonderful baking afternoon.
BANANA COOKIES
 INGREDIENTS:
3 ripe bananas
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Stir in oats, dates, oil, and vanilla. Mix well, and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  3.  Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly brown.
The girls gave it a little twist by adding colorful sugar sprinkles which was a big hit!

PITA CRISPS
INGREDIENTS:
1 pack whole wheat pita pockets
olive oil
parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cut the pita pockets into half and further cut into small triangles.
  3. Lay them on a cookie sheet and lightly brush with olive oil.
  4. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
  5. Bake for 10 mins in the pre-heated oven or until lightly brown.
This is a healthy snack and a good alternative to chips for kids and adults alike. Mischka loves her pita crisps since she was just a little over 1.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

It was an effort to keep their interest and attention going till the last recipe (which was the very easy and very tasty banana mix)! There were a lot of breaks in between-- a trip to the pond to feed the fish, then back to the play room, snack time, reading time.. But in the end, everyone was happy with the outcome of our baking endeavor.

While the little ladies enjoyed their goodies with water and milk, the mummies enjoyed theirs with a bottle of Zinfandel! Can't wait for the next little hands activity.
