Weekend Recharge

Spontaneity, blue skies, truffle cheese, Chardonnay, bubbles, the vast green field.. make for a light and wonderful Sunday afternoon. Capping off what has been a long week with a spontaneous picnic with good 'ole friends is always a good idea.

Being such a sucker for picnics and with our family being a huge one for beaches, beach picnics are the kind of escape we all equally enjoy. Last Labor Day, we drove up north to a beach in Zambales and brought a spread of our picnic essentials. 

Must say, the Santarem was very versatile from the travel, to the lounging, and to cover-up after a quick dip in the waters. For a day trip, its pieces like this that give you the most mileage without ever compromising style. That, a light read, a beach blanket, a basket of comfort food, my favorite Chardonnay , and my most favorite company-- made for a leisurely Labor Day beach picnic. 

Recipe for a Leisurely Picnic with a Toddler

Okay, so we finally had a picnic- in BACOLOD! In case you're wondering where there, you'd be surprise. And if you're from there, you'd think it's funny.

Here's what you need.

 SUPPLIES:

a picnic basket

a mat or a large blanket

a ball
1 large bowl

measuring cup and spoon

INGREDIENTS:

1 clear, breezy afternoon

1 small carton of milk

1 small carton of juice

1 bottle of Chardonnay

1 basketful of snacks

6 lb. of grass

1 gallon of excitement

2 cups of laughter

1 pint of creativity

10 loads of energy

Preheat your afternoon to a pleasant 25°Celsius. Mix in all ingredients in a large bowl except for the grass and the ball. Pour into a pan and bake for 20 minutes. When done, sprinkle with grass and top with a ball. Serve with a smile, some small toys, and a light read. Enjoy for 2 hours.  

Suffice to say, it was a success. Thanks to the hedonist in us, Le Misch and I are able to find yet another pleasurable and enriching activity without having to spend a lot.

snaps from the weekend

Hubby and I finally found time to catch the most talked about movie of late last Friday night. Followed by a run down on the week that flew by without us noticing it, over a bottle of white. It was a nice, quiet date we haven't had in a long time.

Saturday was all about the little girl and her car seat. You see, car seats in Manila are not mandatory and I know it's a little too late to start her on it now that she's a few months shy of 2 years. But hubby and I insisted and boy how we primed her for this. The last and only time she was strapped up on one was when we were in San Francisco earlier this year. She was defiant then but later on gave in-- as she had no choice! This time around we were a bit apprehensive, knowing how smart, cheeky, and independent she has become. But the excitement we built around it worked that it was as if its a great new toy which she happily sat on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will last a looooong time.

Come Sunday we indulged in some good fresh air, a plethora of sweets, wonderful company, and a whole lot of bubbles!
